In today's competitive market place, the fundamental challenges faced by every designer are to design a meter with a market leading feature set, within budget and production timescales. These challenges become ever more difficult when considering the design of a low cost 3-phase electronic kWh meter, according to European specification IEC 62053-21. For these meters, it is difficult for the designer to add significant features because of tight budget restrictions, which are further exacerbated by the need to use current transformers for measuring the current in each phase.
