Marathon Oil proposes drilling of Detroit River Group horizontal well near prolific Beaver Creek Field

CRAWFORD COUNTY, Mich.— Marathon Oil Co. has proposed the drilling of a new well featuring a 5,000-plus foot horizontal section targeting the Devonian Detroit River Group of geologic formations at a location approximately one mile east of the nearest existing Devonian-age production, from the prolific Beaver Creek Field, which has produced from Detroit River Group horizons since the late 1940s. Marathon's permit application for the State Beaver Creek 1-14 HD1 (SL: NE NW SE, Sec 11-T25N-R4W, Beaver Creek Twp., Crawford Co.) was received by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality's Office of Oil, Gas & Minerals (00GM) on July 29. Proposed measured depth of the test is listed as 9,655 feet.
