Drilling down by 7 percent in first three quarters of 2011, compared to same period of 2010

PLEASANT, Mich.—Michigan oil and gas drilling during the first three quarters of 2011 was down by 7 percent compared to the first three quarters of 2010, with a total of 118 drilling completions recorded between Jan. 1 and Sept. 30,2011, according to a preliminary tally of activity conducted this week by Michigan Oil & Gas News. Oil and gas drilling permit issuance—a key indicator of upcoming activity—was up slightly over the same period of 2010, with a total of 187 permits issued in the first three quarters of 2011.
