LANSING, Mich.—Annual Michigan crude oil production exceeded the 7 million barrel mark in 2012 for the first time since 2001, according to a Michigan Oil & Gas News analysis of the most recently updated production data made available earlier this month by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality's Office of Oil, Gas & Minerals. Michigan crude oil production had declined steadily since the mid-1980s, when annual production levels exceeded 30 million barrels, with the modern low point coming in 2007, when production of just over 5.2 million barrels was reported.
