GAS CHROMATOGRAPHIC CO2/O-2 DETERMINATIONS IN MANHOLES OF A TELEPHONE NETWORK

Gas chromatography was applied to the investigation of gas in the atmosphere of manholes and a new sampling procedure was developed. An accumulation of carbon dioxide was found in several manholes; its concentration was dependent on weather conditions and changed periodically with the seasons of the year. A linear relationship was found between CO2 and O-2 concentrations of the manholes, which was different from the relationship calculated for a physical enrichment of CO2 in air.
