Radiation therapy for squamous cell carcinoma of the oral tongue in patients 30 years of age or younger

Thirty-one patients age 30 years or younger treated for squamous cell carcinoma of the oral tongue at the Department of Radiology, Osaka University Hospital between 1967 and 1982 were reviewed. Treatment for the primary lesion was interstitial radiotherapy or combination of external radiotherapy and interstitial radiotherapy in the majority of cases. The 2-year survival rate was 68 which compares with those in patients of all ages treated for the same disease. Young age itself, therefore, may have no influence on prognosis.
