摘要

The Varestraint and Transvarestraint tests have been pointed out as the most used to study welding solidification cracking, yet using TIG process as energy source. The objective of this work was to evaluate the performance of both tests when carrying out aluminum alloy welding with a wire feeding process, such as MIG. An experimental methodology was employed aiming a same volume of deposited metal per unit of length, a safe criterion for cracking quantification and a high result reliability. The same condition was replicated 7 times for each test. The outcomes indicate that the adopted methodology assured a good repeatability and the Transvarestraint test coupled with the MCL criterion presented the best performance, leading to the conclusion of the adequate of them to evaluate the solidification cracking susceptibility in aluminum MIG welding.
