摘要

The paper presents the experimental results obtained by the authors concerning the increase of feeder efficiency by means of thermal insulation. A steel part was cast with several variants of feeders: uninsulated feeders, insulated feeders with external cores made from "FERRAL S" (by Huteness S.A.) and insulated feeders with silica sand cores with inserted wood plates. For each type of feeder dimensions were determined experimentally such as to allow the casting of shrinkhole-free parts. Also the utilization efficiency of liquid metal in casting was calculated. It was established that applying sand cores with wood plate insertions to feeders increases their efficiency and allows reducing their dimensions compared to thermally uninsulated feeders.
