april is still winter in the high country of Colorado, as I was sharply reminded on my recent visit to Jim Cotter's studio in Minturn. A historic small town (population 1,027) with a huge amount of character, Minturn is just the place for a man like Jim. Originally founded as a railroad town in the late 1800s during the Colorado silver mining boom, Minturn is surrounded by the Holy Cross Wilderness and nestled in the Eagle River Valley halfway between the resorts of Vail and Beaver Creek, in both of which Jim has owned galleries for 45 years.
