The paper presents a brief overview of the basic characteristics of tool steels and heat treatments influence on a single steel vacuum tool. Vacuum heat treatments were performed on AISI M2 steel is a steel quickly. Themicrostructure ofAISIM2 high-speed steel can be substantiallymodified by vacuum heat treatment in order to optimise the ratio between hardness and fracture toughness.
