Six hundred people enjoyed a rousing good time at "Directions Unknown: Looking Forward, Learning from History," the SNAG conference in Memphis, Tennessee, held in June. Hosted by The Metal Museum, co-chairs James Wallace and Charles Ferryman assembled an impressive mix of speakers, bench demonstrations, exhibitions, Beale Street blues, BBQ, and metal on the Mighty Mississippi. The conference enjoyed significant support from Rio Grande and a private foundation. We also want to thank Charon Kransen Arts, Myron Toback, Inc., Bill Gangi/Multisensory Arts, and Otto Frei for their Platinum and Gold level sponsorships. SNAG's next conference is already on the horizon. Hosted by the Savannah College of Art & Design, co-chaired by Lanelle Keyes and Bonnie Kubasta, "Crosscurrents: Diverse Solutions in a Global Environment" will be held March 5-8, 2008, at the Marriott in downtown Savannah, Georgia. Keynote speaker Sheila Hicks leads off a slate of presenters that includes Carlier Makigawa, Iris Eichenberg, and Richard Nelipovich.
