The leaching of manganese nodules was carried outwith dilute hydrochloric acid to investigate the kinetics andmechanism of copper and nickel leaching in the range withoutdissolution of manganese. The leaching rate of nickel was largelydependent on temperature and independent of the acidconcentration, while that of copper was mainly effected by acidconcentration. Most of copper and 77% of nickel were leached outwithout dissolution of manganese and the kinetics of copper andnickel leaching fit well to the volume reaction model. Theseindicate that they appear to be adsorbed on the surface ofmanganese oxides, not within its lattices.
