On my way to work, I always stop at a vending kiosk in my apartment complex parking lot to pick up a copy of my local newspaper. Recently, the issue price of our daily had increased from 75 cents to one dollar. The newspaper vending machine accepts any coin except a penny or a half dollar. All I had on me for change were two quarters and a whole bunch of dimes. First, I dropped in the quarters. Then, as I dropped in each 10-cent coin, I began to count aloud: "60, 70, 80, 90, one dollar."
