The 4th Symposium on "Advanced Technologies and Processes for Metals and Alloys" organised by ALD Vacuum Technologies covered a wide range of vacuum metallurgy processes and applications. Two steel-related highlights were the VIDP furnace for superalloys and the vacuum melting plants at Bohler; Austria. Further topics included the control of the furnace atmosphere in the ESR process, computer modelling of the VAR process and recycling of radioactively contaminated scrap.
