In a Major Reshuffle, Sodick Removes President Swaps Other Execs

Citing sluggish sales of its bread-and-butter electric-discharge machines, the board at Sodick Co. (Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan) has carried out what appears to be deep surgery. Katsuhide Fujiwara, 59, one of the two managing directors, was appointed in late December as president to succeed Kazuo Kato immediately. Kato, 52, who had been named to the top post in June 2008, is now an adviser and not even a director. The company cited his ill health for the sudden succession. Fujiwara studied at the school of science and engineering at Catholic Jochi (Sophia) Univ. (Tokyo) and joined the company in 1976.
