Roller bearing for operation at 800 deg C

The Eich company has developed a bearing that is capable of operation in a red-hot condition. Because of the vaporization of their basic oils at high temperatures, lubricants can only reduce friction with their solid components which, in most cases, is not sufficient to avoid fretting or the generation of considerable noise in plain bearings. At 800 deg C the coefficients of friction in plain bearings are so high that, when used in hearth bogies, they tend towards siezing up. This problem can be solved as sliding friction is replaced by the rolling friction that occurs in a roller bearing.
