CSN, Brazil, to erect ladle furnace and degassing unit

In connection with the third development stage of the Volta Redonda Works, Companhia Siderurgica National (CSN) have placed a contract with a consortium under the leadership of Ferrostaal do Brasil to supply installations and technology for the Volta Redonda Works. These include a recirculatory degassing unit (rocker unit principle), a ladle furnace with an immersed lance for the injection of with powdered materials. The scope of supply includes engineering design, supply and supervision of erection and commissioning of the units. The three 225 t vacuum vessels are constructed in accordance with the proven one-piece Vacmetal design with welded-on nozzles. The ladle furnace incorporates three current carrying electrode arms. A four-stage steam ejector vacuum pump system, a twelve-bunker alloy system, a six-bunker micro addition system, as well as water treatment plants for both condenser and machine cooling water systems will form part of the supply. A burner system for heating the vacuum vessel, equipment for automatic temperature and chemical sampling and engineering design for the required electrical control instrumentation and monitoring systems are also included.
