Training simulator for continuous casting operation

A computer software package has been developed which allows the simulation of a continuous caster operation. This programme represents a new tool to facilitate the training of operating personnel. Without connection to the actual production equipment all operators can become familiar with the caster's layout, functions of various pulpits and panels, CRT displays and all the control measures. Operators are provided with basic knowledge of typical casting sequences and they even learn how to react under emergency situations. The time necessary for training on the Armco thin slab caster was shortened by use of the simulator, resulting in savings in time and money, more safety for the operators and less damage to the caster.
