In Germany Orders for Machine Tools gain over forecast

VDW, the German machine-tool producers' association, notes that the consumer portions of that country's economy are growing, causing domestic demand for factory equipment to rise more strongly than was originally anticipated. In the first four months of 2006, domestic orders gained a "satisfying" 17 percent, and foreign orders have remained stable at a high level. So, says VD W's Detlev Elsinghorst, the trade association's earlier forecast of stagnation for this year is being revised upward, to a gain of 2 percent over 2005 for a total German production of 10.6-billion dollars (including parts and accessories), or 13.3-billion dollars.
