Domestic, Export Markets pick up for Italian builders

At the Oct. 10closeofItaly's25thBi-MU,thebiennialnational machine-tool exhibition that once again was combined with the SFORTEC subcontracting show, UCIMU reported that 96,000 visitors had attended-up 20 percent over the 2004 event. They had come to view products from 1,771 exhibiting companies-42 percent of which came from outside Italy. The venue was the new Fiera Milano exhibition and conference complex at Rho in the northern suburbs of Milan. The Bi-MU show occupied two-fifths of the whole covered site, which also will be used for the huge 2009 pan-European EMO (the next EMO, in September 2007, returns to Hanover, Germany). Like EMO, which is becoming a six-day event instead of seven, the Italian Bi-MU too will shorten its run next time. The 26th "Bienniale Macchine Utensili" (www.bimu-sfortec.com) will run five days instead of six, Oct. 3-7, 2008.
