EAF technology breaks record

Steel production via the electric arc furnace route features tremendous benefits such as lower investment costs, higher production flexibility and lower environmental impact. Hot metal charge coupled with Consteel greatly reduces energy consumption and the use of consumables and increases productivity. At the largest EAF currently being built at Wheeling Pittsburgh in the USA these characteristics will guarantee a production capacity of over two million t from a single EAF, which will provide the possibility of charging pig iron, hot metal, DRI and HBI.
