TSSI, Thailand, places orders for iron and steel complex

In March 1996, Mannesmann Demag Huttentechnik, Germany, received an order from Thai Special Steel Industry PLC (TSSI), Bangkok, for the construction of a turnkey blast furnace and an oxygen steelmaking plant. These projects are part of an integrated iron and steelworks complex for which TSSI signed a letter of intent with Davy International. The blast furnace, with a hearth diameter of 12.5 m, is designed for a max. hot metal production of 3.8 million t/year. It is equipped with pulverized-coal injection. Most of the hot metal produced is fed to the steelmaking plant. The rest is processed into pig iron by two pig-casting machines.
