Hylsa commissioned its new flat products mill in February 1995. It consists of a DC electric arc furnace, an AC ladle metallurgy furnace, a CSP caster and a 6-stand hot strip mill which can produce strip in widths up to 1 350 mm and thicknesses between 1.0 and 12.7 mm. Production up to October 1995 was over 200 000 t. The breakout rate was only 0.3 percent, the casting sequence incorporating up to 11 heats with prime quality up to 98 percent. These results are better than the projected values, with a total work force of only 280 people.
