Being an integral element of the steel production process, metallurgical coke has risen acutely in price. This is mainly due to the continuing demand from China and other countries, such as India. A large percentage of today's steel production is based on the smelting of iron ore in blast furnaces and the subsequent refining of the iron into steel. Blast furnaces predominately utilise iron ore, metallurgical coke and limestone in the iron and steel making process.
