Carbon enrichment in austenite during proeutectoid ferrite transformation in Fe-0.11C-1.5Mn and Fe-0.12C-1.5Mn-0.5Mo (mass pct) alloys was measured by Electron Probe Microanalysis to study the effects of Mo addition on the local condition of ferrite/austenite interface. Mo addition reduces carbon enrichment in austenite, resulting in retardation of transformation kinetics, while carbon concentrations in austenite on entering the steady stage of transformation agree well with negligible partition local equilibrium prediction and are hardly affected by Mo addition.
