An application of conformal mapping in fibre optics

摘要

Conformal mapping is used to find the exact cut-off frequency of optical fibres with a dip in the refractive index. The exact mode field at cut-off is found to be a Bessel function of fractional order in the fibre core. The wider the dip is, the smaller the order.
