Changes in market and environmental conditions call for prompt reactions in order to maintain competitiveness. Older production facilities have to be adapted to new circumstances. The main objective then is to extend the production programme, while at the same time improve quality and considerably cut down on costs. In this conjunction, it is important to introduce production and management information systems laid out for the future, such as PICOS and MIDIS.
