Price rise may come soon for hot-dip galv

While the rest of the EU strip product market flounders in a dull climate of inactivity and persisting downward pressure on prices, hot-dip galv appeal's to be on the march. Traders report that the majority of supplying mills are out of the market with many over-booked for galv, while others are suspected of holding onto stocks in order to create an artificial shortage in an attempt to engineer a price rise either in the fourth quarter or in the first quarter of 1997. However, the balance of opinion appeal's to indicate a genuine surge in demand as German traders say they have recently taken orders DM50-70 higher than orders taken a month or so ago. The German domestic price for hot-dip galv of average specifications is said to be in the region of DM750.
