US special steel imports could top 1m tons

US special steel imports continued strong in June, prompting the Specialty Steel Industry of North America to speculate that 2000 could be the first year that imports top 1m short tonsJanuary-June imports totalled about 503,000 tons, an aver-age of 84,000 tpm. Imports totalled 834,412 tons for all of 1999, a 69,500 tpm average.
