With Inaugural program An Unequivocal Success, METALCON Officials Looking To Make STUD University An Annual Convention Feature

Washington, DC--Caps and gowns were replaced by tool belts and screw guns in October as STUD University graduated its first class of 23 steel framers in Tampa, Florida as part of 2003 METAL-CON International, the metal construction industry's annual conference and exhibition. Co-sponsored by the Steel Framing Alliance and METALCON, the three-day "STUD U" curriculum included classroom instruction but was particularly designed to provide intensive, hands-on training that would arm students with the fundamental skills required to frame with light-gauge steel in both residential and commercial applications. This first class was made up of students from around the world, Scotland, Canada and the U.S. Their class assignment was to build the 1,830 sq. ft. demonstration structure featured on the METALCON show floor, a feat they accomplished in less than 12 hours.
