January scrap negotiations are off to a leisurely start in the USA asmills cautiously survey the landscape before they enter the market.The market appears to be gathering some strength in certainregions, sources said, and obsolete grades will continue to be harderto secure than prime scrap.Only a few spot deals have been conducted by a South Carolina millthat entered the market early on Tuesday January 5, paying $20 moreper gross ton for cut and shredded grades of scrap.
