Management theory has become one of the pet topics for consultants and psychologists over the past couple of decades with various changes in leadership styles being advocated. Certainly corporate decision-making has moved on from the old days of authoritarian top-down commands to a more bottom-up egalitarian idea of consensus and consultation. Such is the extent of the move towards making consensual decisions that even some of the City of London's most important authorities, usually bastions of Victorian rectitude, have started to ask industries and companies what they think about a variety of pertinent issues, rather than implementing regulations without an acceptable consultation period as was often the case in the past.
