The American Institute for International Steel has blasted the US industry for last week's letter to President Clinton asking for immediate intervention to reduce the flow of imports (MB Oct 19).AIIS president David Phelps said the letter, signed by more than 60 steel company chief executives and two labour union chiefs, is just the latest example of the industry's long-time policy of relying on government intervention instead of competing in the global marketplace.
