Saldanha nears breakeven point

Saldanha Steel, South Africa's new HR coil producer, expects to reach breakeven point on an operating basis by June, as the market recovery continues and the plant increases its capacity-utilisation rate.The company recorded a loss of R400m on revenues of R411m for the period July-December 1999. The after-tax loss for the current financial year is forecast at no more than R1bn, in line with budget.
