CannonDesign created an expansion design for the University of California, Riverside's (UC Riverside) Student Recreation Center in Riverside, Calif., that preserves an existing at-grade pedestrian thoroughfare and connects to existing recreation facilities. The facility is organized with a large, cantilevered second floor that bridges the existing pedestrian thoroughfare and connects to the existing building. The majority of fitness functions are located on a broadly cantilevered second-floor bridge that features open interior spaces with expansive glazing.
