Nature Hideaway

When owner, architect and contractor, Tom K. Wagner, AIA, LEED AP, and his wife, Betty, interior designer and project manager, were planning on building a new residence, they chose a spot that is well off the traveled path. The vast Brighthawk Ranch in Aravaipa Canyon, Ariz., is located 10 miles off the highway, with five of the miles unpaved. The sometimes arduous trek presented several construction challenges when it came to building the aptly named Treehouse guesthouse, as it was sometimes difficult getting equipment, building materials and workers to the site. Due to the remoteness of the canyon property, the Wagners chose extremely durable and fire-resistant materials for the environmentally conscious guesthouse.
