Metal Roof Meets School's Environmental Objectives

Its status as a LEED Gold recipient is proof positive of the environmentally friendly approach taken with regard to the design of the Willow School in Gladstone, NJ. And among the school's many green attributes is its Follansbee TCS II roof. The K-8 private school building, which was completed in September 2003, is surrounded by a combination of farmland, woodland and wetlands. Its green aspects include salvaged bluestone walkways, hallways made of cork and all-natural linoleum, desks constructed from trees harvested at the site, and bathroom stall doors made from recycled detergent bottles. Rainwater runoff from the roof is collected and stored in a 57,000-gallon underground tank and is then utilized to flush toilets and irrigate the landscaping.
