Standing out in Miami's South Beach is no easy task. That's true for the people and its true for the buildings. To ensure that its newly designed ensemble of one- and two-story townhouse-style retail boutiques would pack the visual punch worthy of their trendy Collins Street setting, Miami-based Zyscovich Inc. wrapped one corner of the development with an origami-like screen fashioned from architectural wire mesh. Potter & Soar, based in the United Kingdom, manufactured the Medway pre-crimped mesh at its Banbury, Oxfordshire, factory. The material was supplied in 6'6" square panels that were then arrayed within a larger grid to create the five irregularly shaped sections. During the day, the mesh panels reflect the sunlight, offering a vibrant, ever-changing look. At night, the screen serves as a canvas for a dynamic, programmed light show that makes the building come alive. Functionally, the screen hides the development's parking garage.
