Japanese production of titanium sponge is on track to meet the industry's performance projections for this year, although it will be a long way off the level of previous years.Data recently released by the Japan Titanium Society (JTS) show that Japanese shipments of titanium sponge during the January-June half of this year reached 9,098 tonnes of which domestic shipments accounted for 5,604 tonnes and exports made up the balance. Though the total is a marked reduction on the January-June 1999 total of 10,111 tonnes, the half-year result nevertheless shows the JTS forecast made earlier this year of 17,500 tonnes for the full year seems certain to be met.
