Batu Hijau set for 20 percent rise in copper output in 2001

Newmont Mining has projected that production at the Batu Hijau mine in Indonesia will rise to 550-600m lb in 2001, while gold output will rise to 400,000-450,000 oz. This is up 20 percent on this year's expected production of 495m lb of copper and up 50 percent on the 280,000 oz of gold production expected this year, according to Tom Enos, president of PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara (PTNNT).Enos told financial analysts during a tour of the mine: "We are continuing to successfully ramp up production at Batu Hijau and as we do so, our operating costs will decline."
