After considering several structural Systems, the architect charged with designing a 50,000 sq. ft. office building in Tallahassee, FL, chose a metal building system for the project's construction. "It was the only structural system analyzed that the A/E team believed could meet the very stringent budget requirements," said Brad Innes, AlA, of Elliott Marshall Innes, also of Tallahassee. Innes said economy, speed of construction and flexibility were not the only benefits associated with the decision. "The metal building manufacturer was able to design and provide the second floor open-web steel joist support system, standing seam metal roofing and miscellaneous supplementary steel framing for the main entrance. This avoided potential coordination problems with multiple building manufacturers and suppliers," he explained.
