ITC ruling hits US-Russian trade agreements

The International Trade Commission's decision that cold rolled coil imports to the USA from six countries -including Russia - were not injurious to domestic US mills (see above) is set to have immediate repercussions for the trade agreements signed by the two countries last year.Already, the suspension agreement signed in December 1999 by Russia's Ministry of Trade and the US Commerce Dept, whereby the USA agreed to suspend anti-dumping duties against imports of CR coil from Russia, is to be dissolved. The comprehensive agreement finalised in July and covering a wide range of steel products could also come under fresh scrutiny as a result of the ITC findings.
