摘要

Over the past decade, there has been a significant expansion in the use of animal models to study various disease processes. Primarily due to the development of gene knockout and transgenic technologies, animal model studies typically use small animals, specifically mice and rats. With the increasing number of animal models at hand, there is a rapidly growing need for morphological phenotypization, longitudinal monitoring of therapeutic efficacy, and testing of new drugs or new molecular imaging probes.
