Slender-Bender was the first project for Berlin's Deadline Architects and saw the firm playing the role of both designer and developer. The design of the structure began with the purchase of a narrow site on a busy street in Berlin-Mitte, an area that used to be at the edge of East Berlin, but which is now once again the center of the German capital. Allied bombs had destroyed the building that once stood at the front of the site while a four-story building at the rear remained. It contained eight small apartments and had seen little changes in half a century.
