Illuminated Mesh Panels Provide Unique Effect At Airport

Baltimore, MD-The new 264 million dollars, 510,000 sq. ft. Southwest Airlines Terminal A/B is a major highlight of the on-going 1.8 billion dollars expansion of the Baltimore/Washington International Airport. Completed in April 2005, this portion provides a 26-gate concourse for the airline and includes a ticket lobby, large baggage claim area, moving sidewalks, and new food and retail concessions. To cover and enclose the end of the new terminal building's exterior, 1 6,000 sq. ft. of BALANCE mesh from Cambridge Architectural Mesh, Cambridge, MD, were installed. The stainless steel mesh has a large-scaled flexible weave with 55 percent open area. Cambridge's customized J-HOOK tension attachment system was used to install the mesh. The system uses J-hooks to attach the mesh to structural supports. A rod that is threaded through the mesh at the top and bottom edges is required. At night, the panels are illuminated for a unique architectural effect.
