When Ralph Rapson designed the Fargo (ND) Civic Center in the late 1950s, he used ribbed metal wall panels to give it a more modern aesthetic. When Foss Associates of Fargo was commissioned to oversee the renovation and expansion of that same complex--which includes both the Memorial Auditorium and City Hall-- it worked hard to bring new life and excitement to the project, but not at the expense of the original character. Through its use of metal panels, masonry and glass, it was able to achieve those objectives.
