UK awards 27’quicker-to-production’oil and gas licenses in energy security drive

The UK's North Sea Transition Authority has awarded a first tranche of 27 oil and gas licenses under the 33rd licensing round,prioritizing areas that can yield new production rapidly in support of energy security.The overall licensing round covers 258 blocks and marks a resumption after licensing was suspended in September 2020 as part of plans to introduce a so-called climate”checkpoint”into the process in the run-up to COP26 climate talks in Scotland the following year.
