Raising Lithops from seed is very rewarding and often quite surprising, especially when you intentionally select two or three plants of a species that have similar appealing characters, distinct from the type, and by pollinating them together. The desired traits are often obtained in the progeny, but it seems that further inbreeding (F2 and F3) sometimes activates recessive genes to bring out completely different characters than expected.
