Des had been working very hard on the text of his monograph on Lithops, and the introductory chapters and descriptions of the various species were almost complete. Many hours were spent measuring plants and taking the average, Naureen had counted and recorded the merosity (cell divisions) of more than 30,000 seed capsules. Unfortunately her microscopic study of the seeds was incomplete and only a couple of features could be included in the descriptions together with those other facts.
