摘要

Although the need for biological and ecological research on Lithops was emphasized many years ago, the neglect of such s.tudies still persists (Cole & Cole 2005). Most of our current knowledge of this genus was gathered on short field trips mostly tocollect plants and data on distribution, associated geology and surrounding vegetation. These observations were then supplemented by gathering biological data on plants in cultivation and this then culminated in general reference works such as Nel (1946), Cole & Cole (2005) and Hammer (2010). The purpose of this paper is to add to the current knowledge of this taxon through observations in its natural habitat.
